Education – Academic Background
Dr. Nikolaos E. Igoumenidis graduated from the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He completed his specialist training in Cardiology at the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI), alongside training in the Intensive Care Unit of Venizeleio General Hospital of Heraklion and specialised training in Interventional Cardiology at the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory of PAGNI. In 2002, he was awarded a PhD by the School of Health Sciences of the University of Crete.

Dr. Nikolaos E. Igoumenidis specialises in Interventional Cardiology, with a particular focus on coronary artery disease and the management of acute myocardial infarction. His areas of expertise include cardiac catheterisation, percutaneous coronary interventions, and the management of critically ill cardiac patients.
Research and Scientific Work
Dr. Nikolaos E. Igoumenidis has held a longstanding career at the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI), progressing from Cardiology Resident to Scientific Associate, Consultant Cardiologist, and ultimately Director of Cardiology within the Greek National Health System (NHS). Since 2012, he has served as Director of Cardiology at PAGNI, maintaining an active clinical and interventional role within both the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and the Department of Cardiology.
He has extensive scientific experience, including participation in national and international cardiology conferences, scientific publications, and active involvement in professional scientific organisations, including the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI).
In addition to his medical and scientific career, Dr. Igoumenidis served as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament from 2015 to 2019.
Current Position
Since June 2026, Dr. Nikolaos E. Igoumenidis has been working as an Exclusive In-House Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. He provides specialised diagnostic and therapeutic medical services to patients and actively contributes his clinical expertise and scientific knowledge to the daily operation and multidisciplinary medical practice of the Hospital.
