Education – Academic Background
Dr Georgios Tomazou graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Crete in 2017. During his studies, he completed a clinical internship at the Cardiology Department of Limassol General Hospital in 2015. Following graduation, he worked as a Junior Doctor at Limassol General Hospital and subsequently at the German Medical Institute in Limassol. From 2019 to 2022, he trained in Internal Medicine at Evangelismos General Hospital in Athens, before continuing his specialist training in Cardiology at Alexandra University Hospital of Athens from 2022 to 2026. Since June 2026, he has been a Board-Certified Cardiologist.
Areas of Interest
Dr Georgios Tomazou specialises in Cardiology, with particular clinical interests in heart failure, preventive cardiology, pulmonary hypertension, cardio-oncology and cardiac amyloidosis. He has experience in the management of complex acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease and advanced heart failure. He has significant experience in acute cardiac care and the management of cardiovascular emergencies, as well as in supporting patients requiring temporary cardiac pacing, non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support and left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). His clinical experience also includes transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE), stress echocardiography and invasive coronary angiography, as well as haemodynamic assessment through right heart catheterisation in patients with pulmonary hypertension and advanced heart failure.
Scientific and Research Work
Dr Georgios Tomazou has an active scientific and research profile, with participation in conferences, scientific presentations and publications. In 2025, he delivered an oral presentation entitled “Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Failure” at the 1st Panhellenic Congress of Heart Failure and contributed to a book chapter on recent developments in tricuspid and pulmonary valve interventions. His scientific work also includes research on heart failure, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, right heart catheterisation, cardiac amyloidosis, cardiovascular prevention and atherosclerotic risk factors. He has presented related work at Panhellenic Cardiology Congresses, while his publications have also appeared in the scientific journal Atherosclerosis. In parallel, he is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, providing clinical teaching and supervision to medical students and Cardiology residents in both the Cardiology Department and the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology, the Hellenic Society of Cardiology, the Hellenic Society of Heart Failure, the Panhellenic Medical Association and the Cyprus Medical Association.
Current Position
Since September 2026, Dr Georgios Tomazou has been working as a Cardiologist at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, bringing specialised clinical experience in heart failure, preventive cardiology, pulmonary hypertension, cardio-oncology and cardiac amyloidosis. He also has experience in the management of complex acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions and acute cardiac emergencies.
