Education – Academic Background
Dr. Maria Skalistira graduated from the Medical University of Sofia in 1999, with her medical degree officially recognised by DI.K.A.T.S.A. in 2000. She subsequently completed her compulsory rural medical service at Zakynthos General Hospital. From 2003 to 2007, she undertook her specialist training in Anaesthesiology at the Department of Anaesthesiology of Hippokration General Hospital in Athens, obtaining her specialist qualification in Anaesthesiology in 2008. In 2014, she completed her PhD at the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with a doctoral thesis examining the effect of depth of anaesthesia on cerebral oxygenation during major abdominal surgery.

Scientific and Research Work
Dr. Maria Skalistira has an extensive scientific and research background, with publications in international scientific journals and numerous presentations at Greek and international conferences. She is actively involved in the education and training of healthcare professionals and has taught in postgraduate programmes at the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her research interests focus on Anaesthesiology, regional anaesthesia, pain management, perioperative monitoring and life support. Her scientific work has received more than 100 international citations according to Google Scholar.
Current Position
Since March 2024, Dr. Maria Skalistira has been an Exclusive Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. With extensive clinical and academic experience in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, she provides specialised anaesthetic care across a broad range of surgical procedures, with particular emphasis on patient safety, modern perioperative management and multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
