The Anaesthesiology Department of Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus is a specialised medical unit with a high level of operational readiness, playing a crucial role in the safe performance of surgical and interventional procedures, the management of emergency cases, and the comprehensive perioperative care of patients.

The Department provides 24-hour coverage for all Operating Theatres, Hybrid Operating Theatres, Endoscopy Suites, the Recovery Unit, as well as the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) of the hospital, offering specialised anaesthetic and emergency support across the full spectrum of surgical and critical care cases.

The Anaesthesiology Department is responsible for:

Operation of the Pre-Anaesthetic / Preoperative Assessment Office

With a focus on ensuring maximum patient safety before surgery, the Anaesthesiology Department operates a specialised Pre-Anaesthetic / Preoperative Assessment Office on a daily basis. This clinic provides comprehensive patient assessment prior to scheduled surgical procedures, with the aim of:

  • Ensuring safe preparation for anaesthesia and surgical intervention.

The Anaesthesiology Department of Mediterranean Hospital provides comprehensive non-operating theatre anaesthesia services for radiological procedures, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and angiography, for both adult and paediatric patients.

Paediatric Anaesthetic Services

The Paediatric Anaesthesiology Department of Mediterranean Hospital is staffed by Paediatric Anaesthetists with specialised knowledge, expertise, and extensive experience in providing anaesthesia to newborns, children, and adolescents.

Using modern methods and techniques for the care and management of young patients, the Paediatric Anaesthetists provide their services for both routine diagnostic procedures and surgical interventions, as well as highly specialised procedures such as cardiac surgery.

Adult Anaesthetic Services

The Anaesthesiology Department at Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus provides comprehensive anaesthetic services to meet the needs of the hospital.

Specifically, Mediterranean Hospital has a specialised Anaesthetist available 24 hours a day within the hospital, providing coverage for all emergency cases, including cardiac arrests, emergency vascular access procedures, and other urgent interventions.

The Hospital’s Anaesthesiology Department also supports patient transfers by ambulance and is equipped to manage all types of cases across all surgical specialties. Patients are monitored and supported postoperatively throughout their hospital stay.
