Education – Academic Background
Dr. Maria Mitselou was born in Venezuela, where, following successful entrance examinations, she studied at the School of Medicine of Centroccidental University “Lisandro Alvarado”, graduating with a “Very Good” degree classification. In 1989, following successful examinations in Athens, her medical degree was officially recognised by DIKATSA. She subsequently specialised in Anaesthesiology at Laiko General Hospital of Athens, completing her specialist training in 1995.

Her clinical experience encompasses multiple surgical specialties and patients of varying levels of complexity, with a focus on comprehensive and safe anaesthetic and perioperative care. For 25 years, she worked at Sismanogleio General Hospital of Athens, initially as a Consultant and subsequently as Director of the Department of Anaesthesiology. During this period, she gained extensive experience in the management of complex surgical cases and high-risk patients, as well as in the organisation and coordination of anaesthesiology services.
Scientific and Educational Work
Dr. Maria Mitselou has participated in numerous scientific conferences, seminars and postgraduate educational programmes, both as a participant and as an instructor. Her continuous professional development, combined with her extensive clinical experience, has enabled her to maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in Anaesthesiology, supporting the delivery of safe, modern and evidence-based patient care.
Current Position
Since October 2021, Dr. Maria Mitselou has been an Exclusive Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, providing specialised anaesthetic and perioperative care. She contributes to the safe delivery of surgical procedures and to the comprehensive management and support of patients before, during and after surgery.
