Education – Academic Background
Dr. Vasileia Chatzikou graduated from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest in 2010 with distinction. She completed her specialist training in Anaesthesiology at the 417 NIMTS Military Hospital in Athens, obtaining her specialist qualification in 2017.
During her training, she undertook extensive clinical rotations in Intensive Care, Paediatric and Obstetric Anaesthesia, Pulmonology, Cardiology, Chronic Pain Management, and Pre-Hospital Emergency Care. She has also participated in numerous international training programmes and holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). In addition, she has specialised training in difficult airway management and modern perioperative care.

Dr. Vasileia Chatzikou specialises in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, and Perioperative Medicine. She has extensive experience in the administration of general and regional anaesthesia across a wide range of surgical specialties, including General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Urology, Plastic Surgery, ENT, and Ophthalmology.
Her professional interests also include postoperative pain management, anaesthesia for endoscopic procedures, patient safety, critical incident management, the implementation of quality protocols, and the continuous improvement of healthcare services.
Research and Scientific Work
Dr. Vasileia Chatzikou is actively involved in the scientific community through publications, presentations, and educational activities. She is an author and co-author of scientific papers in the fields of Anaesthesiology, postoperative analgesia, pain management, and patient safety and has presented her work at national and international conferences.
She has served as an instructor in difficult airway management courses and regularly participates in continuing medical education programmes. She is a member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA), and the Hellenic Society of Anaesthesiology.
Current Position
Since July 2027, Dr. Vasileia Chatzikou has been working as an Exclusive Consultant Anaesthesiologist at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. She brings extensive international experience from hospitals in Greece and Saudi Arabia, where she served as a Senior Registrar in Anaesthesiology and held senior administrative and leadership positions, including Corporate Medical Director and Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology.
Her professional approach is centred on patient safety, individualised perioperative care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the implementation of current international clinical guidelines, with the aim of providing high-quality anaesthetic care.
