Education – Academic Background

Dr. Maria N. Latsona graduated from the University of Patras School of Medicine in 1994. She obtained her licence to practise medicine in the same year and subsequently completed her specialist training in Anaesthesiology at the Department of Anaesthesiology of Evangelismos General Hospital in Athens, receiving her specialist qualification in 2000. She is a PhD candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine.

She also completed a three-month training programme in Surgery in Montpellier, France, and has undertaken further specialised training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced life support, regional anaesthesia, difficult airway management, and safety in anaesthesia. In addition, she holds diplomas in Medical Acupuncture, Auriculotherapy–Auricular Acupuncture, and Cosmetic Acupuncture.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Maria Latsona has extensive experience in general and regional anaesthesia, perioperative care, intensive care, and the management of patients undergoing complex surgical procedures. Her areas of particular interest include cardiac anaesthesia, postoperative analgesia, acute and chronic pain management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and difficult airway management.

She is also actively involved in Medical and Cosmetic Acupuncture, as well as Auriculotherapy, incorporating complementary therapeutic approaches to support pain management and enhance patients’ overall well-being.

Research and Scientific Work

Dr. Maria Latsona has developed extensive scientific and academic experience through her participation in national and international conferences in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine. She has attended numerous postgraduate seminars and clinical workshops covering topics such as safety in anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, paediatric anaesthesia, and life support.

She has contributed to scientific studies and presentations on topics including postoperative analgesia, the effects of neuromuscular blocking agents, the management of patients with multiple trauma and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), as well as anaesthetic management in cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. From 1999 to 2001, she was involved in research at the Experimental Research Unit of Aretaieio Hospital and has also participated in medical teams involved in kidney and heart transplantation.

She is a member of the Hellenic Society of Anaesthesiology, the Hellenic Society of Pain Management, the Hellenic Medical Acupuncture Society, and the Academy of Auricular Neuromodulation.

Current Position

Since July 2026, Dr. Maria N. Latsona has been working as an Exclusive Consultant Anaesthesiologist at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. With many years of experience in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, and perioperative medicine, she provides high-quality anaesthetic care with a strong emphasis on patient safety, individualised treatment, and effective pain management.
