Education – Academic Background

Dr. Nikolaos Plagiannakos graduated from the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2012–2018) with a grade of “Excellent.” He is also a postgraduate student in the MSc Programme in Surgical Anatomy at the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with completion of the degree currently pending. He completed his rural medical service at the General Hospital of Laconia (2018–2019) and subsequently undertook his specialist training in General Surgery at:

  • General Hospital of Laconia (December 2019 – December 2021)
  • 2nd Department of Surgery, General Hospital of Athens “G. Gennimatas” (December 2021 – December 2025), a Bariatric Center of Excellence (EAC-BS)

  • 498 procedures as second assistant

He gained significant experience in laparoscopic general surgery, bariatric and metabolic surgery, as well as in the management of patients in the Emergency Department.

He has completed specialised educational courses and international surgical workshops, including:

  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course (2019)
  • Minimally Invasive Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Live Surgery Workshop, Seville (2025)
  • Laparoscopic and Transanal Colorectal Supermaster Course, IRCAD (2025)

He has also participated in Greek and European surgical conferences, including the Panhellenic Congress of Surgery, the Panhellenic Congress of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery, and the European Colorectal Congress.

Current Position

Since April 2026, Dr. Nikolaos Plagiannakos has been an Exclusive Consultant at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. In his current role, he provides General Surgery services, including the surgical assessment and management of patients, with particular interest in modern laparoscopic techniques, emergency surgical care and comprehensive perioperative management.
