Education – Academic Background
Dr Michalis Kakas graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Imperial College London, obtaining his MBBS (London). He subsequently completed his specialist training in General Surgery in the United Kingdom and obtained the FRCS (London) qualification. He went on to undertake specialised training in Intensive Care Medicine and Trauma Surgery at internationally recognised centres, including Queen Alexandra Hospital in the United Kingdom, Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv, and the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. Throughout his professional career, he has completed a range of internationally recognised training programmes, including ALS, APLS, CCrISP, ATLS, PHTLS and DSTC. He has also served as an instructor for the ATLS and PHTLS programmes, actively contributing to the training of healthcare professionals in emergency trauma care and management.

Scientific and Research Work
Dr Michalis Kakas has maintained a longstanding presence in the academic and medical education community. He has served as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and has held positions as Honorary Professor and Professor at St. George’s University. He has participated in scientific and educational activities focusing on Trauma Surgery and Emergency Surgery, combining his clinical experience with the training of healthcare professionals in the management of severe and emergency cases. In parallel, he participated in humanitarian missions with Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World) in Nagorno-Karabakh and Bosnia, providing surgical care in particularly demanding humanitarian environments.
Current Position
Since January 2016, Dr Michalis Kakas has been an Exclusive Associate Physician, contributing to the provision of specialised surgical services, the management of emergency surgical cases, and the development of modern trauma care in Cyprus.
