Education – Academic Background

Dr. Georgios Kopaniaris graduated from the Medical University of Plovdiv in Bulgaria in 2018, completing his medical studies in English. During his medical education, he undertook clinical training in Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, and Surgery at university hospitals in Plovdiv. In addition, he completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Sports Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2025, focusing on sports injuries, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and arthroscopic surgery.

Dr. Georgios Kopaniaris practises in the field of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, with a particular interest in Sports Medicine, sports injuries, arthroscopy, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and injury prevention in athletes. He has experience in the assessment and management of knee, shoulder, and hip conditions, as well as injuries such as meniscal tears, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, and Achilles tendon ruptures. His professional interests also include the medical care of athletes, functional rehabilitation, and supporting their safe return to sporting activities.

Research and Scientific Work

Dr. Georgios Kopaniaris has developed his clinical and scientific experience through specialist training in Orthopaedics and further postgraduate education in Sports Medicine. Since May 2019, he has undertaken specialist training at the Department of Orthopaedics of Kilkis General Hospital, where he has gained extensive experience in outpatient and emergency orthopaedic care, including the management of acute musculoskeletal conditions, fractures, and sports injuries.

As part of his specialist training, he has actively participated in a wide range of orthopaedic surgical procedures, including fracture surgery, knee arthroscopy, reconstructive procedures, and hand surgery. His postgraduate training in Sports Medicine has further enhanced his knowledge in the assessment and management of sports-related injuries, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and modern arthroscopic techniques.

Current Position

Since July 2026, Dr. Georgios Kopaniaris has been working as a Consultant at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. With clinical and surgical experience in Orthopaedics and specialised postgraduate training in Sports Medicine, he is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, with a particular focus on sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery, and functional rehabilitation. His clinical approach is based on modern evidence-based treatment methods, with an emphasis on individualised patient care and the safe and timely return of patients to their daily and sporting activities.
