Education – Academic Background

Dr. Georgia Protogerou completed her secondary education in Volos, graduating with an “Excellent” overall grade. She was admitted through the Panhellenic Examinations to the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, from which she graduated in 2002. She subsequently specialised in Diagnostic Radiology at the University Hospital of Larissa from 2004 to 2009, receiving comprehensive training across the full spectrum of modern diagnostic imaging. Following completion of her specialist training and successful participation in the required examinations, she obtained her specialist qualification in Diagnostic Radiology.

Areas of Interest

Dr. Georgia Protogerou has a broad clinical interest in medical imaging and diagnostic accuracy, with particular emphasis on modern multiparametric imaging approaches. Her main areas of interest include:

  • General diagnostic imaging in adults and children
  • Computed Tomography (CT), with emphasis on emergency and oncological imaging
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), with particular interest in neuroimaging and musculoskeletal imaging
  • Ultrasound imaging of the abdomen and soft tissues
  • Clinical diagnostic assessment in collaboration with other medical specialties

Her approach places particular emphasis on correlating imaging findings with the patient’s clinical presentation, contributing to timely and accurate diagnosis.

Scientific and Research Work

Dr. Georgia Protogerou has actively participated in scientific conferences and educational programmes in Diagnostic Radiology, including presentations of clinical cases and applications of modern imaging techniques. Her scientific interests focus on the optimisation of imaging protocols, the diagnostic accuracy of CT and MRI, and the integration of imaging findings into clinical decision-making. She also maintains continuous professional development, keeping up to date with advances in medical imaging and emerging imaging technologies.

Current Position

Since May 2017, Dr. Georgia Protogerou has been a Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. She is actively involved in the Department of Radiology, providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging services, including CT, MRI, ultrasonography and conventional radiology, with the aim of delivering timely, evidence-based and clinically relevant diagnostic information across the Hospital’s medical specialties.
