Education – Academic Background
Dr. Ioannis Chastas completed his secondary education with distinction and was subsequently admitted to the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Following his graduation from Medical School, he completed his military service and fulfilled his rural medical service as a Rural Doctor. He later completed his specialist training in Paediatrics at the University Hospital of Heraklion and subsequently pursued subspecialty training in Neonatology at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the University Hospital of Ioannina, obtaining his specialist qualification in Neonatology following successful examinations.
Areas of Interest
Dr. Ioannis Chastas specialises in Paediatrics and Neonatology, with a particular interest in the monitoring and care of newborns, premature infants, and children from the neonatal period through adolescence. His main clinical interests include:
- Neonatal care of newborns and premature infants
- Follow-up of high-risk newborns
- Support and management of high-risk deliveries
- Diagnosis and management of conditions affecting early infancy
- Preventive Paediatrics and vaccinations
- Monitoring the growth and development of infants, children, and adolescents
Research and Scientific Work
Throughout his professional career, Dr. Ioannis Chastas has gained extensive clinical experience in both Paediatrics and Neonatology. Following his specialist and subspecialty training, he worked as a private Paediatrician and as a Consultant in the Department of Paediatrics at Kozani General Hospital, managing a broad range of complex paediatric and neonatal cases.
He regularly participates in scientific conferences and educational programmes in Paediatrics and Neonatology, maintaining an ongoing commitment to continuing medical education and the latest developments in these fields.
Current Position
Since June 2021, Dr. Ioannis Chastas has been working as an Exclusive Consultant at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. In parallel, he serves as a Personal Paediatrician within Cyprus’ General Healthcare System (GeSY), providing comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care with an emphasis on prevention, continuous monitoring, and individualised care for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents.
