Education – Academic Background
Dr. Maria Tsitskari was born in Kavala in 1982 and completed her primary and secondary education with distinction. She graduated from the DOTE University Medical School in Hungary in 2006 with distinction. In 2013, she completed her specialist training in Diagnostic Radiology at the 2nd Department of Radiology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During her specialist training, she undertook a three-month placement at Saint-Pierre Hospital in Brussels, focusing on Interventional Oncology. In 2014, she completed the Postgraduate Programme in Interventional Radiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, while from 2013 to 2015 she pursued further training at the Department of Interventional Radiology of Attikon University General Hospital. In 2016, she obtained the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) qualification.

Scientific and Research Work
In 2019, Dr. Maria Tsitskari was awarded her PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with a doctoral thesis focusing on innovative techniques in Interventional Oncology. Her scientific and research work includes publications in international scientific journals and books, as well as more than 55 presentations at national and international conferences. She regularly participates in scientific conferences in Europe and the United States as an invited speaker on topics related to Interventional Radiology and Oncology. She has served on committees of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE). Since 2020, she has been a member of the European Board of Interventional Radiology examination committee, while since 2023 she has served on the CIRSE European Radiation Protection Committee and the Scientific Committee of the European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO). She also serves as a reviewer for CVIR and CVIR Endovascular. In 2023, together with Dr. Elika Kashef of St Mary’s Hospital in London, she co-edited a special issue of CVIR Endovascular dedicated to the role of Interventional Radiology in women’s health.
Current Position
Since November 2020, Dr. Maria Tsitskari has been a Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. In parallel, she holds the position of Lecturer in Radiology at the School of Medicine of the European University Cyprus.
