Education – Academic Background
Dr. Athos Nicolaou graduated from Agios Antonios Lyceum in Limassol with an overall grade of 20.0 and ranked first in the entrance examinations for the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he was admitted on a scholarship. During his undergraduate medical studies, he served as a teaching assistant in Anatomy, contributing to the education of medical students. He also completed a two-month training programme in Vascular Surgery at the Second Department of Propedeutic Surgery of the University of Athens, supported by an EU scholarship. He subsequently completed his specialist training in Paediatrics at the Second University Department of Paediatrics of the Children’s Hospital of Athens, where he received comprehensive clinical training and obtained his specialist qualification in Paediatrics.
Areas of Interest
Dr. Athos Nicolaou has a particular interest in General Paediatrics, with an emphasis on the comprehensive care and follow-up of infants, children, and adolescents. His clinical interests include the prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic paediatric conditions, as well as the provision of individualised paediatric care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Research and Scientific Work
Throughout his clinical and educational career, Dr. Athos Nicolaou has actively contributed to the scientific and educational activities of university paediatric departments. His experience includes participation in on-call clinical duties, educational outpatient clinics, and the management of complex hospitalised paediatric cases. He maintains an ongoing commitment to scientific and professional development through continuous clinical education and hospital-based practice in Paediatrics.
Current Position
Since July 2019, Dr. Athos Nicolaou has been working as an Exclusive Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, providing comprehensive paediatric care to infants, children, and adolescents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He actively contributes to the Hospital’s clinical services, with a focus on comprehensive, individualised, and high-quality paediatric care.
