Dr. Malas was born in Limassol. He finished the schools in Limassol and then he studied Medicine at the University of Bonn, Germany.
He has specialized with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Oncology at the Medical School, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He has postgraduate studies in Palliative Medicine at the University of Wales, UK, at the University of Economics, Bocconi, Milan, Italy and has a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management from the Open University of Cyprus. He also holds a PhD from the University of Nicosia.
He lectured from 1989-1994 Oncology at the University School of Johannesburg, South Africa and from 1994 to 2004 at the School of Nursing at the Nicosia General Hospital.
He is a lecturer at the Nursing Department of the Cyprus University of Technology and the University of Nicosia (Master’s Degree in Oncology Nursing) and from 2015 he is an honorary Professor at the Medical School, St. George’s University of London and the University of Nicosia.
He worked from 1994 to 2004 at the Oncology Department of the Nicosia General Hospital and from July 2004 to March 2025 he was the director of the Oncology Department of the Limassol General Hospital.
He is an active member of several scientific professional societies such as the Oncology Society of Cyprus, the European Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the British Society of Oncology, the European Association for Palliative Care etc. He is a Medical Officer at the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends.
Member of the Review Bioethics Committee for Clinical Trials on Medicinal Products for Human Use, Cyprus National Bioethics Committee and the National Committee against Cancer.
As part of his scientific activities, he is an organizer, speaker and active participant in many international conferences in Cyprus and abroad. He has over 100 publications in Greek and foreign journals.
