Education – Academic Background

Dr Maria Christina Fronista is a Medical Doctor and graduate of the University of Nicosia Medical School, where she completed her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2026. She also obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Nicosia in 2024. She is registered with the Cyprus Medical Council. Her clinical education and experience span Cyprus, Greece and the United Kingdom. From August 2024 to April 2026, she completed clinical rotations at Limassol General Hospital and affiliated centres, gaining experience across Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Intensive Care, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, General Practice, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Cardiology, Neurology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Renal Medicine, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology and Dermatology.

In January 2026, she completed an elective placement in the Acute Medical Unit at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London, where she participated in the assessment of acute medical admissions, consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary discussions, while gaining experience in recognising and escalating the care of deteriorating patients using NEWS2. Her additional training includes Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification from the European Resuscitation Council, as well as training in Clinical Governance, Surgical Skills, ICU Simulation and Clinical Reasoning Simulation through University College London.

Areas of Interest

Dr Maria Christina Fronista has a particular interest in Clinical and Emergency Medicine, the assessment of acute presentations and comprehensive, patient-centred medical care. Her clinical experience includes medical history taking and comprehensive clinical examination, recognition and escalation of deteriorating patients, safe clinical handover and effective communication with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals. Her procedural skills include venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, blood culture collection, arterial blood gas sampling, ECG acquisition and basic interpretation, urinary catheterisation, basic wound care and simple suturing.

Scientific and Research Work

Dr Maria Christina Fronista is actively involved in scientific research and medical education. In 2025, she presented the poster “Phthalates and Fertility: The Hidden Threat to Women” at the 10th Panhellenic Congress of Gynaecological Endocrinology. Since 2025, she has also contributed as an ICD-11 Translation Contributor to the World Health Organization (WHO) ICD Project. From 2024 to 2026, she contributed to undergraduate medical education at the University of Nicosia Medical School as an Anatomy Teaching Assistant, Ultrasound Peer Tutor, Communication Skills Peer Tutor and ECG Club Tutor, delivering small-group teaching, practical skills sessions and structured feedback to junior medical students. She received the Dean’s Award in 2026. In addition, since 2022 she has worked as a Medical Claims Auditor, reviewing medical claims and clinical documentation, assessing complex clinical cases and developing experience in clinical governance, confidentiality and quality assurance within healthcare.

Current Position

Since August 2026, dr Maria Christina Fronista has been working as a Physician in the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, participating in the assessment, diagnosis and management of emergency cases and providing immediate, comprehensive medical care as part of the Department’s multidisciplinary team.
