The Vascular Surgery Department of Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus provides comprehensive and specialised services for the prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of arterial and venous vascular diseases, applying the most advanced vascular surgical and endovascular treatment techniques.

The Department covers the full spectrum of vascular conditions, including:

  • Aortic and peripheral artery aneurysms
  • Carotid artery disease
  • Peripheral arterial disease
  • Venous diseases and varicose veins
  • Thrombosis
  • Diabetic foot
  • Vascular trauma
  • Emergency vascular surgical conditions

Treatment is provided through both open surgical techniques and modern endovascular / minimally invasive procedures, offering a personalised therapeutic approach based on each patient’s individual needs.

The Vascular Surgery Department works closely with the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E), the Intensive Care Unit, the Hybrid Operating Theatres, the Radiology Department, and the Hospital’s other specialised units, ensuring comprehensive and immediate care even for the most complex and urgent vascular cases on a 24-hour basis.

The Vascular Surgery Department is staffed by specialised and experienced Vascular Surgeons trained in both open and endovascular vascular surgery, supported by specialised nursing and technical personnel with expertise in the management of vascular and interventional cases.

The Department’s team works in close collaboration with other medical specialties of the Hospital, including:

Outpatient Center

The Vascular Surgery Clinic of Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus offers a welcoming and patient-centred environment where patients feel comfortable and receive personalised care from experienced Vascular Surgeons.

At the Outpatient Clinics, patients receive:

Comprehensive clinical assessment
Immediate diagnostic evaluation when required
Accurate diagnosis and appropriate management plans aimed at restoring and maintaining patients’ health

The Clinics are fully equipped with modern medical technology and supported by specialised nursing staff, ensuring high-quality vascular care.

Appointments are available daily, from the morning until late afternoon.

Venous Conditions

Varicose veins are treated using the most advanced endovascular techniques, including:

  • Laser thermal ablation
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • VenaSeal™ adhesive closure
  • Microphlebectomy
  • Sclerotherapy for varicose veins and spider veins

Patients undergo treatment and are typically discharged on the same day, while recovery time is reduced to only a few days.

Other venous conditions that are also treated at our clinic using modern endovascular techniques include:

  • Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

Endovascular and Open Management of Aortic and Carotid Artery Disease

The clinic has all the capabilities for endovascular treatment (Carotid Angioplasty – Carotid Stenting) and open surgical repair (Carotid Endarterectomy) of carotid artery stenosis, according to the indications, for the optimal management and outcome of the patient.

Furthermore, although they are rare conditions, the management of carotid artery aneurysms as well as carotid body tumours is also among our areas of care.

Endovascular, Open Surgical, or Hybrid Treatment of Aortic Diseases

The vascular surgery clinic of our hospital, using the most advanced minimally invasive methods, also known as endovascular techniques, with the state-of-the-art hybrid operating room equipment combined with the extensive experience of our team members, can manage the full spectrum of aortic diseases, mainly through endovascular approaches.

The general characteristics of these endovascular procedures are as follows:

  1. Large surgical incisions have been replaced by simple percutaneous skin punctures.
  2. The repair of the vascular lesion is performed from inside the vessel (hence the term endovascular), using high-technology devices (balloons, stents, endografts, vascular filters, embolisation materials, etc.).
  3. They are completely painless and do not require general anaesthesia.
  4. Hospitalisation lasts one day in the vast majority of patients.
  5. Recovery takes only a few days.
  6. Potential complications are reduced to a minimum.

Indicatively, the following are performed:

  1. Endovascular treatment of simple and complex abdominal, thoracic, and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms using fenestrated and branched endografts (FEVAR, BEVAR, customised endografts/stents).
  2. Endovascular treatment of simple and complex Type B aortic dissections according to Stanford classification.
  3. Conventional open surgical repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
  4. Endovascular and open surgical treatment of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms on a 24-hour basis, every day of the week.
