Rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure that allows us to modify and improve the shape, dimensions, and overall appearance of the nose, making it harmonious with the other features of the face. A large hump, a thick or ‘drooping’ tip, a wide or crooked nose—all of these can be corrected by an experienced and properly trained rhinoplasty surgeon. There are two main types of modern rhinoplasty: closed and open. In the closed method, the incisions that allow us to reach the structures that need to be corrected are made inside the nose. On the other hand, in open rhinoplasty, a small, discreet incision at the base of the nose provides the required access. It is critically important for the surgeon to be comfortable with both approaches so that they can be flexible and achieve the best possible result every time. A successful rhinoplasty not only significantly enhances our appearance but also boosts our self-confidence and improves our mental well-being.
Beyond aesthetic correction, many times functional correction of the nose is also necessary. In these cases, during the same procedure, the surgeon may also perform a simultaneous surgical correction of a deviated nasal septum, reduction of hypertrophic nasal turbinates, or even removal of nasal polyps using endoscopes.
