Idiopathic scoliosis is a lateral and rotational deformity of the spine of unknown cause, which most commonly occurs during adolescence. It is much more frequent in girls than in boys. At our clinic, we offer a monitoring program in an effort to reduce the need for surgical intervention.
Scoliosis is diagnosed with specific X-rays that allow for the measurement of a specific angle (Cobb angle). Scoliosis is diagnosed when this Cobb angle exceeds 10 degrees. Scientific studies suggest that the use of a customized brace in the developing spine of patients with scoliosis greater than 25 degrees can prevent the worsening of the deformity and the need for surgery.
