The pathological anatomy laboratory of the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus accepts archival material for a second opinion with the aim of providing assurance about the correctness of the initial diagnosis and/or providing additional information that will assist in the design of a targeted and personalized treatment.
For a second opinion from the doctors of our department, on material that was initially examined in another laboratory, the patient must provide the following:
• Histological slides of all sections examined
• Slides of special stains (histochemical or immunohistochemical), if performed
• A block or blocks of paraffin from the most representative area of the lesion to enable additional auxiliary tests (e.g., histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, etc.), if deemed necessary
• A copy of the histological examination report
The above material will be returned to the patient after the completion of processing by our laboratory. The slides of special stains that are performed in our laboratory will remain in our records.
The material, particularly the histological slides, which are fragile, must be carefully packaged in the special durable cases usually provided by Pathological Anatomy Laboratories.
For faster service, please inform the department’s secretary at the phone number: 00357 25 200 222 before sending/delivering the material.
