Conchoplasty

The lower nasal turbinates are normal anatomical structures located on the lateral wall of each nasal cavity, opposite the septum. Their role is to regulate the humidity and temperature of the inhaled air, thus contributing to normal breathing. However, in some cases, their size increases excessively, which significantly hinders airflow through the nose. This condition is called hypertrophy of the lower nasal turbinates and is diagnosed through nasal endoscopy using a flexible or rigid video-endoscope.

The goal of this treatment is to shrink the volume of the nasal turbinates to widen the nasal cavity and restore the normal airflow within it. Very satisfactory results are achieved by reducing the size of the nasal turbinates using radiofrequency, laser, or special micro-curettes. However, the best possible results are achieved with Endoscopic Conchoplasty. In this method, using an endoscope and special endoscopic surgical tools, the external part of the mucosa of the nasal turbinates, as well as the bone beneath it, is removed. This allows for precise control in shrinking the turbinates to the desired size, while also being the only method that guarantees a permanent result, unchanged over time.

All of the above can be performed in combination with the straightening of a deviated nasal septum or an endoscopic sinus surgery, during the same procedure.
