Education – Academic Background
Dr. Pantelis Kountourakis graduated from the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1998. He trained in Internal Medicine at the Second Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine of the University of Athens (“Evangelismos” – “Attikon” University Hospitals) from 2002 to 2005. He subsequently continued his training in Medical Oncology at Yale University in the United States from 2005 to 2006 and at “Agios Savvas” Anticancer Hospital in Athens from 2006 to 2008. In July 2007, he was awarded a PhD with distinction from the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His doctoral research focused on the HER family of receptors (EGFR, HER-2, HER-3, and HER-4) in colorectal cancer. In 2008, following specialist examinations, he obtained his qualification in Medical Oncology in Greece, as well as certification from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Dr. Pantelis Kountourakis specialises in Medical Oncology, with particular interests in:
- Gastrointestinal cancers
- Gynaecological cancers
- Molecular oncology and immunotherapy
- Targeted cancer therapies
His clinical approach incorporates advances in molecular oncology and contemporary systemic therapies, with an emphasis on individualised, evidence-based cancer care.
Research and Scientific Work
Dr. Pantelis Kountourakis has an extensive research background, with active participation in international research protocols and clinical trials, including studies conducted by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). Throughout his career, he has collaborated with leading research and oncology centres, including MD Anderson Cancer Center, and has contributed to numerous scientific publications and presentations at international conferences. He is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HESMO).
Current Position
Since September 2021, Dr. Pantelis Kountourakis has been working as an Exclusive Consultant at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, where he leads the Oncology team and contributes to the provision of contemporary, individualised cancer treatments based on international clinical protocols and the latest therapeutic advances. His clinical practice is centred on multidisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based medicine, and personalised treatment strategies, with the aim of providing comprehensive, high-quality oncology care.
