Dr. Konstantinos Vasilas is the Director of the Vascular Surgery Department at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus and a member of the hospital’s scientific council, overseeing research activities. His journey in vascular surgery began at the ATTIKON University General Hospital in Athens, where he received his foundational training, and continued abroad in Sweden for eleven years. During this period, he served as the Director of the Vascular Surgery Department at SkaS Skövde General Hospital in the Gothenburg area and as Deputy Director of the University Vascular Surgery Clinic in Malmö.
His time in Sweden was pivotal in shaping his expertise as a vascular surgeon, enhancing his knowledge and skills in surgery and clinical practice, with a focus on patient-centered care. He specialized in modern treatments for aortic diseases and aortic arch conditions (FEVAR, BEVAR, ChEVAR) in both elective and emergency contexts (Malmö, Sweden, 2019). His additional specialized training includes endovascular challenges and advancements in covered stent technologies (Brussels, Belgium, 2015), advanced EVAR techniques (Utrecht, Netherlands, 2015), and management of femoropopliteal and below-the-knee lesions through intraluminal or subintimal reconstruction (Dendermonde, Belgium, 2013). He also attended surgical infection management programs at the “Tzaneio” General Hospital in Piraeus, Greece, in 2005.
As a clinician with a strong interest in both practical medicine and research, Dr. Vasilas holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree (MSc) and recognizes the critical role of innovation in advancing healthcare. His extensive clinical experience is complemented by modern diagnostic methods used in outpatient care (ultrasound, CT, and MRI), enabling him to select the most appropriate treatment methods for various conditions. He specializes in contemporary techniques for treating aortic diseases (EVAR, ChEVAR, BEVAR, TEVAR) and venous diseases (LASER, Foam and Mechanical Sclerotherapy, Radiofrequency Ablation).
Particular emphasis is placed on patients with chronic kidney failure requiring vascular access for dialysis (AVF, AVG, CDD) and those with peripheral arterial disease who need improved peripheral circulation. Patient care is his primary passion, and understanding the multidisciplinary and multifaceted nature of today’s medical field, he is dedicated to equipping himself with the necessary tools to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives and contribute to the advancement of medical science.
