Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus is pleased to announce the introduction of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), significantly enhancing the diagnostic and interventional capabilities of its Gastroenterology Department.

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a highly accurate, advanced imaging technique that combines gastrointestinal endoscopy with ultrasound imaging of surrounding organs and tissues. Using a specialised endoscope equipped with a high-frequency ultrasound probe, EUS provides detailed visualisation of the oesophageal, gastric, and duodenal walls, as well as nearby structures including the pancreas, biliary system, lymph nodes, and adrenal glands.

Benefits of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

  • High diagnostic accuracy
  • Detection of small and early-stage lesions
  • Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and Fine Needle Biopsy (FNB) for obtaining tissue or cytological samples
  • Minimally invasive procedure
  • Performed under sedation, ensuring excellent patient comfort and tolerance

Main Indications for Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is recommended for, among other indications:

  • Investigation and staging of cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, and rectum
  • Diagnosis and monitoring of pancreatic diseases, including tumours, cysts, and chronic pancreatitis
  • Investigation of biliary disorders and unexplained dilatation of the bile ducts
  • Assessment of submucosal gastrointestinal lesions
  • Investigation of enlarged lymph nodes of unknown origin
  • Ultrasound-guided biopsy procedures

The introduction of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) at Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus marks an important milestone in the continuous enhancement of the Hospital’s healthcare services, providing patients with access to advanced specialist diagnostic procedures without the need for referral to other specialised centres.
