Education – Academic Background
Dr. Athanasios Filandras graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Siena in Italy. He completed his specialist training in General and Family Medicine at “G. Gennimatas” General Hospital of Athens. He subsequently undertook further training in Pre-Hospital and Hospital Emergency Medicine, as well as in General Systems Theory for individual and family therapy. In addition, he specialised in Medical Acupuncture and Auricular Acupuncture, broadening the range of therapeutic approaches incorporated into his clinical practice.
Areas of Interest
Dr. Athanasios Filandras specialises in General and Family Medicine, with a particular interest in preventive medicine, chronic disease management, Emergency Medicine, Primary Healthcare, and a holistic approach to patient care. He also has specialised expertise in Medical Acupuncture and Auricular Acupuncture, integrating contemporary and complementary therapeutic approaches into his daily clinical practice.
Research and Scientific Work
Dr. Athanasios Filandras has an active scientific and research profile, including participation in international research collaborations such as the EUROSIDA and D:A studies. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in national and international medical journals. He was also a member of the translation team for the scientific textbook Secrets in General Practice, contributing to the dissemination of contemporary knowledge in the field of General Practice. In addition, he has served as an instructor for Rural Service Doctors and as a training coordinator for General Practice residents, actively contributing to the education and professional development of the next generation of physicians.
Current Position
Since October 2019, Dr. Athanasios Filandras has been working as a Consultant Physician at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. With extensive experience in Primary Healthcare, Emergency Medicine, and the management of complex medical conditions, he provides comprehensive healthcare services with a strong focus on prevention, early diagnosis, and individualised patient care.
