Education – Academic Background
Dr. Kyriakos Kakavelakis graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Crete and completed his specialist training in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital of Heraklion.
He subsequently undertook advanced training in Arthroscopic Knee Surgery and Sports Traumatology at specialised centres in Belgium recognised by the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).
He also holds a Master’s Degree in Bioethics and has additional academic training in Physiotherapy and Sports and Exercise Science, providing him with a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.

Research and Scientific Work
Dr. Kyriakos Kakavelakis is actively involved in the scientific community through contributions to scientific publications, academic writing, and presentations at national and international conferences, where he has also participated as a speaker.
He regularly attends continuing medical education programmes and participates in scientific activities focusing on Sports Orthopaedics and Arthroscopic Surgery. He is a member of national and international scientific organisations, including the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) and the Hellenic Association of Arthroscopy and Sports Injuries.
Current Position
Since January 2024, Dr. Kyriakos Kakavelakis has been working as an Exclusive Consultant at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, providing specialised services in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Traumatology, with a particular focus on the management of sports injuries and the surgical treatment of knee conditions.
