Spatially, the hospital’s drug dissolution unit consists of changing rooms, the pharmacy, the preparation room, and the dissolution room. All of these areas are in continuous, adjoining layout and are connected with a controlled entry system. They are designed in such a way as to ensure a safe working environment, both for the protection of the personnel handling these specific medications and for the protection of patients receiving the final dissolved product from potential microbial infections.
In the changing rooms, hand washing and the use of the appropriate protective equipment are carried out by the staff working in the dissolution unit.
The operation of the drug dissolution unit is based on strict procedures and protocols, which are faithfully followed by specialized and trained personnel. Specifically, a “value chain” is created aiming for full quality control of the final product that will reach the patient.
