At the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus a fully organized Orthopaedics and Trauma Department is operating on a 24/7/365 basis, being always ready to address any incident.
With the continuous education of our staff on the latest breakthroughs of Orthopaedic treatments, along with the use of technologically advanced tools and equipment, our staff can deal with any type of trauma cases and injuries, as well as any chronic diseases of adults and kids using modern techniques.
For the complete recovery and therapy of the patients, the Orthopaedics and Trauma Department is supported by several medical specialties like: the Intensive Care Unit and experienced physiotherapists.
At the Casualty Department, our team faces any case immediately all around the clock with our experienced Traumatologists and Orthopaedic surgeons being On Call. Our specialized team can treat any acute, open or closed injuries of the musculoskeletal system, traffic accidents, labor accidents, etc (soft tissue injuries, extortions of any joint, fractures of the spinal column, pelvis fractures, fractures of upper and lower extremities) .
Trauma Unit
Fractures of the central skeleton
Fractures of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine are faced according to internationally accepted guidelines, either conservative or surgical (kyphoplasty , posterior and anterior spinal fusion) with the most advanced implants and osteosynthesis methods.
Fractures of Pelvis and Acetabulum
We ensure the immediate reduction and stabilization of any pelvis fracture using external fixation or internal fixation with the most advanced implants of osteosynthesis due to our unique experience with this types of fractures in Cyprus.
Fractures of Long Bones
The osteosynthesis of long bones as well as intra-articular fractures of both upper and lower extremities can be treated by either intramedullary nails or implants of internal fixation (plates from titanium with locking screws)
Fractures on kids
The stabilization of unstable fractures on kids is ensured through flexible nails on long bones or with external fixation with cannulated screws of any size, with minimally invasive methods.
Injuries of the upper and lower extremities
Cases of fractures and distortions of the wrist, metacarpals and phalange of the hand as well as the respective injuries of tarsal, metatarsal and phalange of the feet, plus all the injuries of bones, soft tissue, vessels and nerves of the hand are been addressed from our specialists surgeons with microsurgical techniques with the use of a surgical microscope.
Orthopaedics Unit
Our Orthopaedic Unit has specialized Doctors and all the necessary equipment to address any orthopaedic case with the most technologically advanced and internationally accepted techniques, like:
Fixation of fractures of upper and lower extremities, as well as spinal column fractures with minimally invasive techniques.
Treatment of hip joint fractures in elderly people with modern techniques, allowing the immediate mobilization of the patient.
Surgical treatment of sports injuries
Arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder, hip joint, elbow, ankle joint, wrist.
Restorations of meniscus tear, tendons, cruciate ligaments, rotator calf, damage of joint cartilage, autologous transplantation of osteochondral pieces (mosaic plasty) and coverage with cultured cartilage cells, therapy with autologous agents.

Scoliosis correction
Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty, especially to patients with osteoporotic fractures
Epidural surgery’s
Surgery’s in the intervertebral joints with use of C-ARM
Surgery of the upper extremity with microsurgery techniques with the use of a surgical microscope when needed (recovery of vessels and nerves, as well as bone transplantation with vessels)
Open and endoscopic release of carpal tunnel
Surgery of the lower extremity as well as modern address of hallux valgus with the appropriate technique depending on the patient.
Treatment of the till of metatarsal heads as well as hammer toe deformity and other disease of lower extremities.

Total removal of tumors of the musculoskeletal system and recovery of the mobility with special tumor prosthesis.
Surgery of the Hand
Surgery of the hand deals with the treatment of all the diseases and injuries of the upper extremities, while in other countries it is considered as a new specialty. Surgery of the upper extremities is applied from Orthopaedic or Plastic surgeons that have gone through specialized training on the use of microsurgical techniques using a microscope or magnifying glasses.
Hand surgeons are trained for the surgical treatment of all injuries of the upper extremities including fractures, stitching of tendons and nerves as well as anastomosis of vessels, while more complicated surgeries consist of reattachments of amputated parts. Treatment of chronic disease like arthritis of the hand, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuritis, trigger finger, Dupuytren disease, cyst, ganglia and tumors.
Our specialists and their associates from internationally recognized medical centers (microsurgeons from teaching Hospitals in Ioannina and Larissa) have the experience in complicated and reconstructive surgeries on the upper extremities, like neurotransmission, tendontrasmission, bones crafts transport with autologous vessels and nerves and brachial plexus surgeries.
Microsurgery
The term “microsurgery” is used to describe all surgeries using a surgical microscope. It is a technique allowing the identification and treatment of extremely small anatomical structures of the body, like vessels and nerves, and reattachment of fingers and extremities.
Microsurgery as a technique, is being applied from doctors of several specialties like plastic surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, etc.
