Education – Academic Background
Dr Eliana Kekkou is a graduate of the School of Medicine at the University of Ioannina. As part of her clinical training, she completed clinical placements at Larnaca General Hospital in the fields of Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Hematology. During her training, she participated in clinical ward rounds, the monitoring and management of hospitalized patients and Emergency Department cases, the performance of electrocardiograms and venipunctures, the review of laboratory investigations, and the documentation of clinical data.
She has also completed a First Aid Seminar, including training in the management of medical emergencies, as well as INED certification related to the completion of death certificates. Greek is her native language. She holds a Goethe-Zertifikat B2 in German and is currently preparing for C1 level certification. She also holds an IGCSE Cambridge qualification in English.

Scientific and Research Activities
Dr Eliana Kekkou has been actively involved in scientific and research activities. She participated in a scoping review examining the association between dermatomyositis and malignancy, which has been published in Autoimmunity Reviews by Elsevier. Her contribution to the project included literature review, critical appraisal of current scientific evidence, and manuscript preparation, with particular emphasis on the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors associated with the relationship between dermatomyositis and malignancy.
She has also participated in a cross-sectional study investigating postpartum women’s knowledge of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections in infancy and available preventive strategies through vaccination, contributing to data collection and interpretation.
In addition, she is involved in the preparation of a case report concerning a paradoxical hypercalcemic crisis, with particular emphasis on differential diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, and therapeutic management.
Her work on dermatomyositis and malignancy has been presented at several scientific conferences, including the Conference of Rheumatologists of Northwestern Greece, the Conference of Internal Medicine Physicians of Northwestern Greece, and the Panhellenic Conference of Alumni of the School of Medicine of the University of Ioannina.
Dr Eliana Kekkou has participated in a total of 27 national and international medical conferences and educational activities, covering a broad range of specialties, including Rheumatology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, Immunology, Surgery, and Gynecology, accumulating a total of 377 ECTS / European continuing education credits. She has also participated in a workshop focusing on cardiac arrhythmias.
Current Position
Since August 2026, Dr Eliana Kekkou has been working as a Physician in the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) at Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, where she is involved in the assessment and management of emergency cases and the provision of immediate medical care as part of the Department’s multidisciplinary team.
