Dr. Triantafyllos Giannakopoulos graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Medical Department of the Military Academy of Corps Officers (SSAS) in Thessaloniki. He served in the Hellenic Navy and worked at Naval Hospitals until 2007. He obtained his specialty in Vascular Surgery (2013) after training in the Vascular Surgery Department of the University Hospital “Attikon” – Medical School of Athens. From then until 2021, he served as a Consultant in Vascular Surgery at the Naval Hospital of Athens and as Director of the Naval Academy Infirmary (2018-2020).
In 2014, he successfully earned the Diploma of the European Board of Vascular Surgery (FEBVS). Concurrently, he had the privilege of working as a Clinical Associate at Klinikum Nurnberg Sud, gaining significant experience with fenestrated and branched aortic stent grafts (2014-2015). He has completed three postgraduate programs:
- 2011: Master’s in Endovascular Techniques for Vascular Diseases, University of Athens, Greece.
- 2015: Diplome Universitaire Endoprotheses Aortiques, CHRU Lille University Hospital, France.
- 2016: Master’s in Ultrasound Functional Imaging for the Prevention and Treatment of Vascular Diseases, University of Thessaly Medical School, Larissa, Greece.
Dr. Triantafillos Giannakopoulos has extensive experience in endovascular (EVAR) and open treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, as well as complex aortic minimally invasive stent grafts (EVAR/EVAS, FEVAR, ChEVAR/ChEVAS) for thoracoabdominal aneurysms and aortic dissections, which remain his primary fields of interest. He completed his doctoral dissertation on Carotid Angioplasty/Stenting and is actively involved in Chronic Renal Failure Surgery/Vascular Access, peripheral artery disease management, and Chronic Wound Healing (diabetic, PAD, venous ulcers).
His expertise in Vascular Ultrasound Imaging enables successful execution of all minimally invasive endovenous techniques (Laser, RF, Steam, MOCA, foam sclerotherapy) for symptomatic patients and aesthetic vascular surgery applications. He is engaged in research with publications and peer reviews for esteemed journals such as EJVES.
Since 2019, he has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified in Vascular Ultrasound by the ESVS (CCVUS). As of December 2021, Dr. Giannakopoulos serves as Co-Director of the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, Limassol. Additionally, he oversees the Medical 3D Printing Laboratory of the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus, established in 2022, utilizing 3D printing technology for minimally invasive endovascular management of aneurysms unsuitable for commercially available stent grafts.
