Dr. Maria Tsitskari has been working at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus since 2020 as the Director of the Interventional Radiology and Oncology Department. She also holds the position of Lecturer in Radiology at the Medical School of the European University of Cyprus.
Dr. Maria Tsitskari was born in Kavala in 1982. She completed her primary and secondary education with honors at the Polytechnic High School of Kavala. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of DOTE in Hungary in 2006 with honors. In 2013, she completed her specialty in Radiology at the Department of Radiology at the University of Athens. During her residency, she spent 3 months at Saint-Pierre Hospital in Brussels, where she trained in Interventional Oncology. In 2014, she completed a Master’s program in Interventional Radiology at the University of Athens. From 2013 to 2015, she underwent further training in the Interventional Radiology Department at the Attikon University General Hospital, where she obtained her specialization in Interventional Radiology. In 2016, she earned the European specialization title in Interventional Radiology, “European Board of Interventional Radiology.”
In 2019, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Athens upon completion of her doctoral dissertation entitled “Pioneering Techniques in Interventional Oncology.” Her research and clinical work have been published in reputable international journals and books, and she has made more than 55 presentations at Greek and international conferences. She is a frequent invited speaker at conferences in Europe and the United States on topics related to Interventional Radiology and Oncology.
She has served on the Board of Directors of the European Radiological Society (ECR) and the European Society of Interventional Radiology (CIRSE). Since 2020, she has been a member of the Committee for the European Diploma in Interventional Radiology, and since 2023, she has been a member of the European Radiation Protection Committee of CIRSE and the Scientific Committee of the European Embolization Congress (ET Congress).
Additionally, she serves as a reviewer for the scientific journals of Interventional Radiology, CVIR Journal of Interventional Radiology, and CVIR Endovascular. In 2023, she was invited by the journal CVIR Endovascular to co-edit a special issue on the role of Interventional Radiology in women’s health, along with Dr. Elika Kashef, an Interventional Radiologist at Saint Mary’s Hospital in London.
