Biography

Dr. Alkisti Nikolaou, MD, PhD, Doctor of Medicine from the University of Athens, and MSc in Minimal Invasive Techniques and Robotic Surgery, is a General Surgeon with an extensive surgical experience of 27 years. She has worked at various hospitals, including 6 years at the 1st University Surgical Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens “Laiko,” 2 years at the General Hospital of Sparta, 4 years at the New General Hospital of Famagusta, 3 years at the General Hospital of Paphos, 6 years at the General Hospital of Limassol, and 4 years at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. She has performed over 6,000 surgeries across a wide range of specialties.

She completed her primary and secondary education with excellent grades, graduated from the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) in 1997 with a grade of “Very Good,” and earned her specialty in General Surgery at the 1st University Surgical Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens “Laiko” in 2003. In 2008, she obtained her PhD with honors in Molecular Analysis of Hepatic Regeneration, Cellular Proliferation/Apoptosis under octreotide conditions after hepatectomy. In 2011, she completed her Master’s degree in Minimal Invasive Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Tele-surgery with a grade of “Very Good.”

She is currently enrolled in the Master’s Program at the University of Athens in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery since September 2023.

Dr. Nikolaou was awarded a scholarship by IKY for one year and another from the Cypriot government for 6 years. She has received awards for her presentations at national and international surgical conferences. She has published in international and Greek journals and has actively participated in conferences, courses, and seminars focusing on laparoscopic surgeries, abdominal surgery, and robotic surgery.

She is a founding member of the Greek Society of Breast Surgery since 2000, a member of the Cyprus Surgical Society, the Greek Society of Endoscopic Surgery and other Interventional Techniques, and a member of the EAES. She has also participated in organizing global, Greek, and Cypriot surgical conferences, including the first Robotic Surgery Conference in Limassol in 2012.

Throughout her specialization at the 1st University Surgical Clinic of EKPA, she gained training in emergency surgery, upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery, endocrine glands surgery, breast surgery, liver surgery, pancreatic surgery, and bariatric surgery. She actively participated in specialized clinics, including breast and endoscopic surgery clinics, and was trained in Infectious Diseases by the EKPA professors. She also completed a three-month specialization in Plastic Surgery at the Saint Savvas Cancer Hospital and another three-month training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following her specialization, she underwent additional training in Pediatric Surgery at the Aglaja Kyriakou Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Nikolaou has a wealth of experience in medical student education (Medical School of Athens, University of Nicosia), nursing students (University of Athens, University of the Peloponnese), and surgical residents (Laiko Hospital of Athens, General Hospital of Limassol). She also mentored rural doctors (General Hospital of Sparta) and pre-registration doctors (General Hospital of Famagusta, General Hospital of Paphos, General Hospital of Limassol).

In addition to her professional achievements, she is involved in social activities as a member of the Board of Directors of the Dragon Boat Sports Club and as a member of the Cyprus National Team. She has won several medals, including three bronze medals at the European Nations Games in Brandenburg, Germany in 2018, and three bronze and one silver medal in Girona, Spain in 2022. She also has a passion for music, plays classical guitar, and is a member of the choir of Aris Limassol.
