Adonis Panayidis was born and raised in Nicosia. After graduating from the Makarios III High School in Dasoupolis and completing his military service, he moved to Germany, where he began his medical studies at the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel.
After completing his medical studies, he worked for a year and a half in the pathology department at the Reinkenheide Clinic in Bremerhaven. He then continued his training in the surgical department at Elbe Klinikum in Stade (Lower Saxony), a reference hospital for the wider region, attracting a large number of patients and certified as a specialized center for treating colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer. He worked at this hospital for a total of nine years, gaining extensive experience in diagnosing and treating various conditions related to his specialty. In 2017, he obtained his specialization in gastrointestinal surgery.
In 2020, he was appointed as a supervising specialist surgeon with administrative duties in the General and Gastrointestinal Surgery Department at OsteMed Klinikum Bremervörde. Some of his additional responsibilities included training new colleagues both inside and outside the operating room, organizing presentations on general surgery and gastrointestinal diseases, and the latest treatment standards. He was also responsible for organizing monthly morbidity and mortality conferences (M and M Konferenz) and co-organizing oncology medical councils, in collaboration with colleagues from other hospitals and clinics in the region, on a weekly basis.
Since January 2023, he has acquired subspecialty expertise in proctology surgery, specializing in new treatments, such as laser treatments and the placement of sphincter pacemakers.
Since August 2023, he has been working as a member of the surgical team at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus in Limassol, as a general surgeon, gastrointestinal surgeon, and proctologist.
Some of his special interests include laparoscopic surgeries, such as gallbladder removal, appendectomy, and laparoscopic procedures on the large intestine. He also performs corrective hernia surgeries, such as endoscopic extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair (TER), umbilical hernias, and post-operative hernias. Additionally, he is involved in oncological surgeries for the small and large intestines, stomach, and emergency surgeries.
He is a member of the German Society for General and Gastrointestinal Surgery (DGAV), the German Association of Surgeons (BDC), as well as the Cyprus Medical Association (PIS).
